An Above-Average Opportunity

An Above-Average Opportunity
“I consider it my pleasure to set up this fund, so that the university and its students may have the opportunity to give and receive as much as I did from my formative years at UNH.” — A. Leonard Seeche ‘48

Len Seeche ’48 didn’t consider himself anything special at UNH — the Lawrence, Mass., native describes himself as an average student who matriculated with little sense of what he wanted to do either in or beyond the classroom — but what he’s done in recent years for his alma mater is special indeed.

In 1997, shortly before his 50th reunion, Seeche reached out to UNH to discuss options for including the university in his will, and in 2015, he funded a generous gift from his estate to establish the A. Leonard Seeche Family Scholarship for undergrads and graduate students. Earlier this year, realizing he wanted the opportunity to see the benefits of his generosity, he made a second gift through his IRA to activate the scholarship during his lifetime; the first Seeche Family scholarship will be awarded in fall 2017. It’s Seeche’s hope that the award will provide a boost to “average” students like himself who are looking to find their way at UNH.

“I consider it my pleasure to set up this fund, so that the university and its students may have the opportunity to give and receive as much as I did from my formative years at UNH,” the successful real estate investor says. “I feel these years to be of prime satisfaction and maturation and a major influence on my life.”

Seeche’s gift will ultimately draw from three sources: an initial gift annuity, his estate plan and his IRA.
